Homework.

Your assignment is due Friday.

Don't look at me.  Those are Mr. Honeybear's orders.

He's up to his ears in the stuff.  You think he has time for hooligans?

Trust me, you don't want to get on his bad side.

Take a stick of butter and let it get to room temperature.

When it's soft enough to mush around with a spoon, mix in some sweet additions:  maple syrup, honey, marmalade, cinnamon, candied ginger, agave nectar...whatever makes you giddy.

I went with a comforting mix of honey and cinnamon.

It took every teaspoon of my being to not scoop this out of the bowl and onto a cake cone.

Turn the butter out onto a piece of wax or parchment paper, form into a "stick" then roll it up and pinch the ends, like a big piece of candy.  Or something.

Refrigerate until firm or until ready to use on Friday.

Now scoot.  You'll miss your bus.  Or the next episode of Man vs Food.

  1. Looks awesome. I struggle with pancakes. Mostly cause I don't have a griddle and am always making them in a skillet.. which is doable but not really easy. I have no reason for not having a griddle. Or a cast-iron skillet, either. These things must be remedied.

  2. Okay, I just went and bought a cast iron skillet. It is huge and I'm in love with it already (that's what she said). We are going to make sweet, sweet music together.

  3. Wait wait wait. In the two hours since your original comment, you managed to check that one off your list?

Impressive, friend. I can't believe you didn't have a cast iron skillet! (I still don't, sob!)

  4. Yeeeaaaah um, both of those comments were meant for the following blog entry regarding pancakes. Whoops.

  5. And yes, I went out and got one during that time period. I called out today because there's no way in hell I was going to struggle through a metro commute (and my bus wasn't even running today). Plus I'm making steaks for V-day dinner and needed one this weekend anyway.
