And a hookah-smoking, monacle'd caterpillar voiced by smooth, velvety Alan Rickman.
I loooooove Alan Rickman.
("We get it." That's what all of my friends are saying in unison right now.)
That being said...Alice in Wonderland comes out today! Are you excited? Have you been waiting 7 months for this day, too?! Are you leaping out of your knickers?! Rhetorical questions?!
In honor of this momentous day, here is a tribute to Tim Burton's take on the classic's characters using (what else?)
...cupcakes.
Off with her head.
A special day calls for special cupcakes.
Special cupcakes call for special beer.
You didn't think the Mad Hatter drank tea at his party, did you?
The Hatter was a hop head.

Last but not least, I have some loot to hand out!
Thanks to everyone who entered my first giveaway. I really appreciate all of the friends and family who have taken the time to stop by and hope that you've gotten a little something in return, whether it be a new recipe, a chuckle or, in this case, free goods.
You guys make me feel fuzzy like my legs in the wintertime.
The winner is Comment #4!
Oh man just one?
When I was a kid : Beetlejuice!
When I grew up: Big Fish

When I grew up: Big Fish
Congratulations Jaimie! You've won yourself a $25 Fandango gift card, just in time for the weekend. Enjoy!
I love Beetlejuice (I actually have a Zagnut in the cupboard at home) and Edward Scissorhands always triggers my deep-seated craving for ambrosia salad and makes me want to get a waterbed.
But if I had to pick one?
"What may I do for you today, sir? A stylish trimming of the hair? A soothing skin massage? Sit, sir, sit."
"You see, sir, a man infatuate with love, her ardent and eager slave. So fetch the pomade and pumice stone and lend me a more seductive tone, a sprinkling perhaps of French cologne, but first, sir, I think... a shave."

"The closest I ever gave."
Todd. Sweeney Todd.

These cupcakes are incredible Ali! I have to say the hookah smoking caterpillar is my favorite. Glad to know someone else is as pumped as I am about the movie...and Johnny Depp.
ReplyDeleteYou have brought tears to my eyes. Absolutely fabulous, Ali. I am Googling "how to petrify a cupcake" so we can keep them for-e-ver!
ReplyDeletePicking up a 6-pack of Mad Hatter tonight to celebrate you and your freakin' creative and crazy mind! Love you, sis. (Also working on how to get this on the streets!)
Ali, these are freakin' amazing! Job well done!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely amazing Ali!! I can't choose just one. I love the Mad Hatter cupcake. It's good looking at Mr. Depp. :)
ReplyDeleteGirl, you are AMAZING. These are just so beautiful. Please do not eat them. They are too pretty:)
ReplyDeleteThis was a multiple "oh my god!" post.
ReplyDelete1st, I did not know that Alan Rickman had a part in AIW.. this changes everything. oh. my. god. (as you know I share your love for Alan Rickman)
2nd,3rd,4th, 5th and 6th, those have to be the most amazing cupcakes I have ever seen. I knew you were talented, but good lord Ali, that shit is AMAZING. seriously, this needs to be your lifelong career. serious skillz.
OH MY DAMN- you are one talented girl! Those have to be the BEST looking cupcakes I have ever seen (even better than your new moon cakes- and I didn't think that was possible). Of course I love the mad hatter cake but the tweedle dee and tweedle dum set really stole a piece of my heart. I wonder if they stock the Mad Hatter ale anywhere in NW Florida??
ReplyDeleteWow those are incredible. Way to go, Ali.
ReplyDeleteTotally with you on Sweeney Todd. I need to watch it again. That ought to be a movie I own, but it's not.
Did you know the production is coming to Signature Theater? It's not Depp and it's not Burton but I'm sure it will be awesome. Amanda and I have tickets to go see it the first week in April.
Those cupcakes are incredible! I really like the tweedledum and tweedledees. You are so creative and talented.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, everyone :) I'm a sucker for all things "theme-y" so making these was a lot of fun. Playing with fondant makes me feel like I'm in elementary school art class again.

ReplyDeleteSo how was the movie? Was it as awesome as everyone is saying? It apparently banked more than Avatar on opening weekend.
ReplyDeleteWe're giving it a week or two before we go. Not a big fan of movie crowds.
