Malted Cinema: The Craft

Watch out for the weirdos, girls.
We are the weirdos, mister.

After Sarah (Robin Tunney) is ostracized by popular classmates at her new high school, she is befriended by three witches (Rachel True, Fairuza Balk and a post-Party of Five Neve Campbell) who recognize her telekinetic powers and believe that she is the "fourth corner" of their coven.

With their circle complete, the girls use their newfound powers to retaliate on the classmates who have wronged them, summon their deity Manon and, most importantly, play games at sleepovers.

Light as a feather, stiff as a board.

Today's craft (ha!) beer selection?

Stone Levitation Ale.

Stone Brewing Co., located in Escondido, CA, is one of the most prolific breweries in the U.S.  They're known for their aggressive beers, including the wildly popular and aptly named Arrogant Bastard Ale, as well as their original flagship beers, Stone Pale Ale and Stone IPA.

But if you're looking for an easy sipper (a "session" beer, if you will) then Levitation is your guy.

It pours a dark but crystal clear amber color with a light, foamy head.

There's something about coordinating your glassware with your beer that makes the experience that much more enjoyable.  This is coming from the girl who used to match her headbands to the color of her Keds.

The aroma and robust flavor is outstanding for a 4.4% abv beer.  Hints of burnt caramel, malt and citrusy hops give this beer some body and leaves a clean, dry, slightly bitter finish on your tongue.

It's SO good.

While some of Stone's beers are seasonal or special release, Levitation is available 365 days a year.  Which means you will always have the perfect beer to bring with you to the next BBQ, Stanley Cup party or sleepover with your coven.

  1. Reading this post has made me realize that I have just wasted countless beer posts that I could have been making! I've tried almost every beer out local Belgian Pub has but didn't document any of them :( Too bad I'm leaving the Netherlands in 15 days...I don't think I'll be able to review too maybe beers in that time! A year and a half wasted...oh well...time to start now I guess :)

  4. After having several Levitations you too can be light as a feather, stiff as a board.

But seriously Levitation has to be one of the most complex session-able (read: drinking without feeling super intoxicated) craft brews available in the US. Those who haven't had it should do themselves a favor and give it a try.
