Harry Potter Week: A Giveaway!

You know when you recommend a favorite band or movie or book to someone and, even though they initially show some interest, you sorta already know that they won't listen to or watch or read your suggestion?

Yeah, lame.

So then you know how awesome it feels when someone actually follows through with your suggestion.  It's grand!  You get genuine excitement out of it and your automatic reaction is to grab them by the shoulders, give them a few hard shakes and scream into their face, "GET OUT!  What did you think?!"  Instant bonus points to that person for taking interest and not pressing charges.

But sometimes people need a little incentive.  With the right blend of Red Bull and Jessie Spano pills, I could talk Deathly Hallows for days (and lose a good number of readers, friends and risk possible family disownage.)  Instead, I'm giving away a $25 Fandango Movie Gift Card so that one lucky reader can witness the beginning of the end on their own.

How to win?  Leave a comment answering this question:

What kind of movie-goer are you?

Do you arrive early to score the money seat?  Do you load up at the concession stand or smuggle in your own goods?  Are you an "opening weekend" or "wait until the hype dies down" type?

The contest is open to US residents (sorry non-USers) and ends Thursday, November 18 @ 11:59pm EST.  The winner will be selected at random and announced in Friday's Sugared Cinema post.

Good luck!  Now would be a good time to drink that Felix Felicis you've been stashing.

  3. Hmmmm... the last time I was at a movie was about 2 years ago, haha. But I'm the guy coming in like 10 minutes late because he didn't want to watch the previews.
"Excuse me, pardon me, coming through"... I always feel like I'm inconveniencing everyone in the row by coming in a little late. :P

    What about you? :)

  4. If I don't watch the movie those first 2 weeks it's out, then chances are I'm not going to. It's like when Lost was on. I'd stick it out, late into the night to watch it because I wouldn't dare wake up the next day knowing a lot of people knew what was going on and I didn't. This is the same thing. I know people will be talking about HP Friday afternoon soooo, I'm there with my popcorn, drink and perhaps a hot dog.

Can we talk about those texters? The light is distracting and annoying.

  5. I like to get there as early as possible, for good seats and so I don't miss any trailers. Waiting in line is fun! I always smuggle in stuff unless the fam is in the mood for popcorn and then we go large! Gotta be opening weekend and no talking or texting!! :)

  6. Promise not to unfriend me on Twitter? I don't go to the movies. They come to me in the comfort of my living room in happy red envelopes.

  7. First, I wait a few weeks until the crowds thin out. Then, I go out of my way to patronize a movie theater that while nice, isn't popular. Finally, I get there early enough to score a good seat, but not necessarily early enough to be in the way of the aisle sweepers. As for snackage, I must have at least popcorn which must be procured from the concession stand. I just can't pass up that aroma. Sometimes, I have candy stashed in my purse and sometimes we buy that with the popcorn. Finally, I run out immediately before the lights go down to use the potty so that I don't have to go during the movie.

    It's all about planning!

  8. i will be honest, it took a lot of coaxing from the bff for me to read HP. it wasn't until 2007 that i finally succumbed, and it was because she bought me the first book. and a month later, i had all the books in my possession. i still cry reading HP7.

i am a get to the theater early to get the good seats kinda girl. i like previews. and for the right movie, i'll go opening night. (for Return of the King, i went to the midnight showing, DRESSED UP. don't judge me). i'm seeing HP7 saturday DAY, so not opening night and hopefully not too packed, cus i will Expelliarmus ppl who get in my face.

  9. Before kids? Arrived before previews, usually bought a drink, maybe popcorn. Watched movies I really wanted to see.

Now that I have kids? Arrive whenever, smuggle in candy AND buy small popcorn and a soda (which isn't small at all). Also, see movies I would never pay to see otherwise. Although I did see Ponyo in the theater, which I never would have seen without kids and it was awesome.

  10. I rarely see movies in the theater anymore. I keep my movie experiences to my couch curled up with the kitties ... But when I do go to the theater it is to see THE movie so I like to get there early to get decent seats and hold them down while I send hubby out for a soda (We smuggle snacks in my purse).

  11. I like to get there early. Like strangely early. I can't stand missing the previews. I also like to get a frozen coke slushy, popcorn and M&Ms. I then pour the M&Ms into the bag of popcorn. I also may or may not like to put mini bottles of vino in my purse. Don't report me.

  12. Since going to the movies is a major treat for us now, we go all out. We HAVE to get there early b/c I refuse to miss the previews. We usually will buy popcorn, but smuggle in candy and soda. Large purses were invented for a reason!!

  13. I'm such a late person in general that I would definitely be late to this show and not have a seat...but I would make it work!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I must get there in time to sit in front of the railing or else I'm not happy. I needs me some elevated foot action! I'm also notorious for smuggling in some Five Guys. Beat that all!

  15. I love watching the previews, but don't like the commercials that come before the previews, so it's a fine art. :) I must buy popcorn, but usually smuggle in candy because it's so overpriced. Once, I brought in Taco Bell.

  16. I do a little of everything. Sometimes I score matinee tickets and smuggle in my goods, and sometimes I splurge and go to a opening show and buy concession goodies. Just depends on the movie and my mood.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Wait til the hype dies down, then smuggle in my snacks to a matinee... or even wait for the Free/Reduced Summer Movie Series for kids, and get my fill of the big screen then.

We own no television, but do have a projection system, so we enjoy all our shows on a 15' screen... makes paying $20+ to see a movie a little... wasteful! I guess I'm just too practical to see more than a movie or two in a year at the theater (at full price, anyway).

    ReplyDelete
  18. We get there about 20minutes early to get good seats, sooner if its a big movie. Depending on the money we will get our seats, then one of us (hubby or I) will go get food at the concession, sometimes we do sneak in our own candy. Depending on the movie depends on when we see it. When I was younger and Kidless I was an opening weekend, standing for hours in like kind of gal (Like HP 2 we were in line for 2hrs, and then saw the move 3 more times over the next 2 weeks lol).

  19. i like to go and watch movies in the mornings...on saturdays normally because the price is much cheaper and the theater isnt crowded. for the most part i like to sneak in some goodies, and if not i go and watch without the popcorn and nachos.

  20. Hmmm this is a good question :D :D These days, if I'm lucky enough to even get a sitter so I can GO to the theater..., I am an opening night kind of person if possible!! I buy the drink, smuggle the cookies (homemade of course) and sometimes the candies in my pockets :P Most recent movie I saw was "Paranormal Activity 2" a couple weeks ago and it scared the **** out of me... prior to that, it'd been a couple years!! p.s. I recommend that movie if you like scary ones :)

  21. I like to arrive early score a great seat and get some knitting done in the peace ans relative quiet of the theater before the movie begins.

    ReplyDelete
  22. What kind of movie theater person am I... hm, I would say "non."

Honestly in the past 3 years or so I have been less and less interested in going out to an actual theater to see a movie. I'm far more comfortable curled up on my couch with some good food (not $10 popcorn) and a beer. Pit that against crowded theaters, long lines, sticky floors, noisy/obnoxious teenagers (damn kids!), cell phones, etc. and there is always a clear winner for me.

That said, yes, as you know, I'll go out for an opening weekend once in a (new) blue moon. About twice a year or so.

  33. I like the previews but hate the trivia. I buy the popcorn but sneak in the milk duds to drop in my popcorn. And to the peeps bringing in fast food, darn you and that delicious smell. It's like bringing mc'd's fries on a plane...I'm just jealous I didn't think of doing it.

  34. I definitely wait it out, I can't stand crowds! I get a big tub of popcorn, great seats, and snuggle in with my hubby.

  36. I like to get to the theater early for a prime seat. I like to enjoy popcorn and a soda during the movie (sometimes the soda gets a special additive from my purse). I like to leave as soon as the credits start to role. I'm sure there are many gems I have missed during the credits but I like to be the first one out of the theater.

  37. I like to get there early and I usually wait until the movie is about to leave the theatre to see the movie.

i'm the type that waits til the last minute to leave for the theater and then practically runs to get there on time but then actually ends up being early and then her husband says, "see, now we have to sit through all these previews."

  43. I am the wait for the hype to die down (do not like the overcrowded theatre), sneak in my own candy/water but buy popcorn and we get there early to snag the perfect seat!! Thank goodness for smartphones to keep us busy for the time we have to wait!

  44. I usually only go to the theater for things I really want to see. Otherwise I wait for the DVD. Harry Potter is one of the go to the theater movies. I typically eat before the movie and get a drink there.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I get there not too early, not too late. There are some people in the theater, but still good seats. Sometimes a smuggler, and almost always buys a concession stand soft drink. Used to be a midnight movie opening night kind of person, but lately with the hours/days I work, I wait a little bit to see the newest flick.
